HOUSTON,
TX August 8, 2000
Fluoro-Seal™, Inc. announced today it is diversifying into the manufacture of
advanced materials through its purchase of selected assets of Composite Particles,
Inc. Production of these materials, which include surface-modfied polymer particles,
short, chopped fibers and
titanium carbide polymer alloys previously sold under Composite Particles VISTOMER trademark,
will begin this fall.
Fluoro-Seal's™ commitment to this new market is underscored by
the fact that it has acquired a new 40,000 square
foot facility in the Houston area to house production
of its new modified materials line in addition
to one of their existing barrier treatment operations.
In line with Fluoro-Seal's™ ongoing dedication to
quality, all of Fluoro-Seal's™ current facilities
are ISO 9002 certified and work has already begun
to meet certification requirements for this new
area.
Dr.
Bernard Bauman, founder and former President of
Composite Particles, has been recruited to manage
this new group. Dr. Bauman, inventor of these technologies,
has received several patents, awards and grants
for his innovative work in this area.
"Fluoro-Seal™ has already demonstrated proficiency in surface
modification technology with our barrier enhancement
and adhesion treatments for plastics," reported
Bill Brown, Vice President of Fluoro-Seal™, "It
was a natural fit to incorporate additional surface
modification technology. This also builds on our
expertise in dealing with highly reactive gases."
Current
users of the surface modified materials include
manufacturers of paints, coatings and molders of
a broad array of high performance end products.
Market demand is based on the performance enhancements
they provide to other materials, with include increased
durability, higher abrasion and mar resistance,
created toughness, and control of surface slipperiness.
Additional applications are under development and
will be announced as they are brought to market.
Composite
Particles, Inc., begun in 1993, wound down its
operation after a fire interrupted production and
they lost the lease on their manufacturing site.
Founded
in 1983 and headquartered in Houston, Fluoro-Seal™,
Inc. has grown to include 9 toll facilities and
3 captive plants in North America in addition to
7 international facilities either jointly owned
or licensed. |
